The Leeds Light Blues Club have been keeping very busy since Lockdown was announced. Previously the Club were holding Socials for Light Blue Aprons, New and Young Masons and Prospective Candidates every other month in Leeds. However, since the suspension of masonic activities, the Leeds Light Blues have hosted online Lectures Via Zoom, host a podcast each week and are delivering fresh content regularly via their facebook and twitter pages.
"We wanted to bring masonry to the brethren, in the comfort of their own homes" said Bro. Matt Nemyria, Chairman of the club and member of Aurora Lodge No.4047. "We all knew that the steps taken by UGLE to safeguard our brethren, support staff and families were essential. As a committee we asked ourselves what we could do in the meantime for the good of our craft." The club came up with the Leeds Light Blues Podcast, which covers a variety of Masonic topics in a friendly and informal manner. "The podcast is designed to be evocative of a festive board; as such we've got toasts to the queen & the craft and to our guests. We announce the good news that's been happening in masonry as well as highlighting any new charity schemes. We've got a great team who work on this with good topics of conversation each week and we've got guest speakers lined up to give us insight into their masonry too". The club then turned to online lectures. "It started when Bro. Josh Doherty-Turnbull (Zetland Lodge No.1311) bought a Zoom License to facilitate the lectures online. We got support from W.Bro Tony Harvey, the 2012 Prestonian Lecturer, who gave a fantastic lecture on The Future of Freemasonry: Evolution & Change". The club helped W.Bro Tony to raise £500 for his fundraiser towards the Masonic Charitable Foundation's Covid-19 Relief Chest Scheme. "The Talking Heads Team from the Provincial Grand Chapter of Yorkshire West Riding then delivered for us a terrific performance in the form of their lecture, promoting the Holy Royal Arch." Both lectures were attended by approximately 80 people, joining from lodges in our province to lodges as far as Iceland, the USA and New Zealand!" The club's social media has ramped up too, delivering fresh content with fresh graphics. "Bro. Matthew Wharton (Pilgrim Lodge No.7728) has been the tireless in getting the word out there. He's up all hours of the day and night to ensure we're keeping everyone informed about our activities. The Leeds Light Blues are planning on delivering two new lectures: W.Bro Tony Harvey's Lecture "Freemasonry: Does it live up to expectations" on 14th May at 7pm & "The Building of King Solomons Temple" by W.Bro Andrew Robinson on 21st May at 7pm. The Leeds Light Blues Podcast can be found here at www.anchor.fm/leedslightblues or on most Audio Platforms (inc. Apples Podcasts & Spotify).
