I first knew Roy when he was coaching cricket at Rotherham Grammar School and very soon after when I played against him at hockey - Roy played for Rotherham and I played for Wickersley - we later amalgamated and played in the same side. He was a wonderful sportsman, a warm human being and a very generous gentleman. I became a Mason 2 years after Roy and from then on he was a mentor, a friend and an inspiration. Funny, helpful, honest and he epitomised what a true Freemason should be. RIP Roy.

Roy will always be remembered in my mind as what true masonry is all about, his humour, his helpful advice and most of all his perpetual smile and jolly attitude. One of life's gentleman if everyday possible.

A truly wonderful Mason who will be sadly missed by all in Sandbeck Lodge. He was always cheerful, very helpful and always had a kind word for everybody. I will miss the jokes Dobby.
