After taking holidays alone, Charlie later had a couple of companions, Evelyn & Christine. Also, a keen amateur enthusiast and member of choirs, as a boy, in his local church choir, followed by the Doncaster Constabulary Male Voice Choir, Barnsley Choral Society and later, Gledholt Male Voice Choir. Charlie was introduced to Masonry by Stan Barrowclough A member of Provincial Lodge and initiated on the 09.05.1975, loyal brother to all his fellow brethren at Mirfield Lodge 1102. He died suddenly at his home on the 21st March 2020.

It is with sadness that I hear of Charlie's death. We worked together in Doncaster County Borough Police many years ago and sang together in the Police Choir. After retiring and loosing contact for a while I had the pleasure to visit his Lodge in Mirfield. A very worth Mason and a fine man.

Charlie was a great Stalwart of Mirfield Lodge. For many years he was the Lodge Secretary. In those days minutes were hand written. Charlies hand writing was almost indecipherable and he often laughed when thinking of those future secretaries who would have to attempt to read his minutes 100 years down the road. A lovely person who I will never forget.

I have fond memories of Charlie, W Bro Charlie Clarkson. He used to call me his favourite Lancastrian, he was my favourite Yorkshireman. He attended my installation 13th December 19. I loved the man. He was a great attribute to our Lodge and will be sadly missed.

Charlie would always offer help and encouragement to the junior brethren, and he could be called upon to fill any office on practice nights, even in his later years he was an enthusiastic Mason, his zest for life is a lesson to us all. He also educated me in the finer points of malt whisky, a true gentleman and brother who will be sadly missed

I found Charlie to be a true mason and a true gentleman, in his own words he was a proper Charlie, loved to put you right if your ritual wasn't correct, top bloke. RIP Luv Rod.

I will always remember Charlie’s visit to our installation last December when we both shed a tear or two, perhaps he knew within it would be his last. Rest In Peace Charlie my friend and Brother.
